Dragon's Fury at Chessington World of Adventures
Land of the Dragons at Chessington World of Adventures opened in 2004 and surrounding it is a large Maurer Sohne spinning roller coaster.
Dragons Fury opened on 27th March 2004, only half an hour before the park was due to close for the day, and closed not long after due to an evacuation staircase which was attached to the ride structure collapsing. It was the start of a very frustrating year for Chessington, their new roller coaster suffered serious problems, some of which saw the closure of Spinball Whizzer at Alton Towers as a precaution due to it being the same ride type.
Of course, that was 2004 and the problems were sorted out during the season, ever since it has run flawlessly and has gained a reputation for being one of the best Maurer Sohne spinning roller coasters ever built.
Instead of being a twisted knot of steel, this is a very drawn out design, the circuit completely surrounds the Land of the Dragons. Its twisted track doing a very good job of spinning the cars, and the second lift hill over Toadie’s Crazy Cars leads to the most forceful part of the ride where a series of very fast turns and bends leaves the cars spinning very quickly.
Its fast, its furious and its lots and lots of fun!
